Rossos amazing 15 per cent rise in customer numbers in just 18 months wins praise from Northern Powerhouse Minister and Lancashire MP Jake Berry18 July 2019
The Government’s Northern Powerhouse Minister Jake Berry is saluting the huge increase in customers choosing to travel with bus firm Rosso – just 18 months since it became part of the Transdev family of companies across the North.
Mr Berry, MP for Rossendale and Darwen, is praising the “huge improvement” in the bus operator’s performance, with a 15 per cent increase in the number of customers choosing to travel on Rosso buses since it joined the Transdev group of companies.
The Minister’s comments follow a meeting with Transdev CEO Alex Hornby in Rawtenstall, including a tour on-board one of Rosso’s new British-built buses launched in 2018 on its popular 464 route between Accrington, Rawtenstall and Rochdale.
Mr Berry said: “The figures speak for themselves – Rosso’s success is outstanding, and it’s being achieved by hardworking people who are dedicated to delivering excellent customer service. Transdev has transformed our services.
“In the last 18 months, the company has benefited from significant investment to improve the quality and reliability of its buses in East Lancashire and Greater Manchester. The considerable experience of Transdev, a large and well-respected bus operator which has won several national awards, is clearly also helping Rosso to thrive.
“What a fantastic tribute to the investments this company has made, in new buses, with contactless payments, wireless charging, and just better buses still staffed by our friendly Rosso drivers every single day.
“Many more people are now choosing to travel on Rosso’s buses, and that’s very good news for the environment and the economy of our region. The huge improvement achieved since the company became part of Transdev is very impressive, and I welcome its success. It's a great story for Rossendale and it's a great story for Transdev”
New and better buses, great value tickets offering more travel at lower fares, and up-to-the-minute technology featuring live departure information, fast and free on-board Wi-Fi and easy to use contactless payment and mobile ticketing apps have all transformed the fortunes of the Rosso company.
Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said: “When Rosso joined our family of bus companies 18 months ago, we promised to keep on delivering a better and more reliable service for our customers, and on buses that people want to be seen on.
“The 15 per cent increase in customer numbers travelling with us shows our investment is attracting more people to choose and use the bus – and there’s more to come, as we look to build on Rosso’s impressive performance with further improvements across the region.
“Rosso’s success as part of Transdev demonstrates that an innovative operator can deliver real and sustainable improvements which attract more customers to travel by bus, without requiring additional funding from local taxpayers. That has to be good news for everyone.”
Rosso’s 240 staff and 102 buses became part of Transdev in January 2018 – a move which gave the green light to an immediate £3 million investment in a fleet of 18 new, high-spec buses alongside the extensive refurbishment of a further 20 buses, for its routes in and around Rossendale, Bury and Rochdale, attracting rising customer numbers to hop on board.
Great value day and weekly tickets are available on board all Rosso buses, offering unlimited travel on Rosso routes in Greater Manchester, Rossendale or further afield. Integration with the Transdev ticket range was introduced on the first day of Transdev ownership, with even greater savings on season tickets available exclusively via the free-to-download Transdev Go smartphone app.
Information on Rosso’s bus services and ticketing, is available on its website at: http://www.rossobus.com and via the ‘Transdev Go’ mobile app, with free timetable guides also available on buses, from bus stations and at interchanges.
