Coastliner bus driver becomes first winner of Transdevs new driver of the month trophy17 April 2019
His friendly welcome, smart appearance and skilful and safe driving have all made Coastliner bus driver Billy Crute a favourite with his regular customers – and now he’s become the first ever winner of North of England bus firm Transdev’s Pride of the North trophy!.
The new Pride of the North cup will be awarded each month to just one driver based at one of Transdev’s seven depots across Yorkshire and Lancashire.
PROUD MOMENT … bus driver Billy Crute receives the Pride of the North cup at Leeds City Bus Station from Transdev CEO Alex Hornby, with Coastliner General Manager Colin Booth (left) and Transdev Head of Delivery Vitto Pizzuti.
Mystery customers made an unannounced journey on Billy’s Coastliner bus between York and Malton and awarded him top marks for his customer care and driving style, while praising his “excellent attitude – helpful, cheerful and a role model to colleagues.”
Transdev CEO Alex Hornby, Head of Delivery Vitto Pizzuti and Coastliner General Manager Colin Booth were on hand at Leeds City Bus Station to surprise a delighted Billy with the trophy and a commemorative certificate.
Alex said: “Billy is a very worthy first winner of our Pride of the North cup – he’s an excellent driver and ambassador for Coastliner, and his ratings from our mystery customers are very impressive – the best at Transdev from across the north!
“The qualities which won Billy such high scores from our mystery customers are what makes him such a favourite with Coastliner regulars – his sheer enthusiasm and his polite and helpful approach to customer care.
“We’ve commissioned our Pride in the North trophy to encourage the highest standards of customer service among our driving teams in Yorkshire and Lancashire. Skilled and safe driving combined with a friendly welcome and exceptional customer care are the qualities we’ll be looking for – and with so many excellent drivers across all our depots, it’ll be a tough task to select a winner each month to receive the coveted cup.
“It’s clear to see from the smiles on customers’ faces as they leave his bus that Billy’s already a favourite with them – and now he’s our very first winner of our new Pride in the North cup.”
A beaming Billy said: “I couldn’t believe it when they said I had won, it was a complete surprise. I’m over the moon to be the first winner of the Pride of the North cup.”
63-year-old Billy Crute is originally from Sunderland: he gained many years of experience as a bus and coach driver in the North East before joining Coastliner five years ago, quickly becoming a popular member of the team at the bus company’s depot in Malton, North Yorkshire. Away from the road, Billy enjoys walking with his partner and their dogs.
