He’s the friendly face of Britain’s Most Scenic Bus Route – and now Coastliner’s Adam Davies has an even bigger reason to smile after being nominated as the country’s number one bus driver!

Adam is one of the best-known faces on the Coastliner route between Leeds, York and the North Yorkshire coast – and now he’s been nominated as Top National Bus Driver in the UK Bus Awards, which celebrate the finest talent in the nation’s bus industry.

Adam, who was chosen from thousands of bus drivers across the country, now goes forward to the national finals of the UK Bus Awards, to be held in London on 20 November.

The good news follows a hugely successful summer for Coastliner, with 21,000 more customers choosing to travel on its network this year compared with 2017 – many attracted to travel on the buses after the 840 service across the North York Moors to the historic port of Whitby was named as Britain’s Most Scenic Bus Route in a nationwide poll of over 15,000 bus users in the Spring.

Adam said: “I’m thrilled to be nominated for this prestigious national award – every day driving on such a beautiful route is really a joy. Many of our wonderful customers are already congratulating me and the finals are still a couple of weeks away!

“As well as the breath-taking scenery, meeting so many lovely people every day as part of my job is a real pleasure. One or two have even been asking for a selfie photo with me behind the wheel!

“To be chosen from the many thousands of bus drivers across the UK for this nomination is just amazing. I love what I do and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of the great team who together make Coastliner the success it really is.”

Adam is based at Coastliner’s home depot at Malton in North Yorkshire, where the company regularly receives praise from customers for his warm and friendly welcome. He also frequently promotes the buses, including via social media, while his face adorns posters marketing the service.

Coastliner CEO Alex Hornby said: “I’m delighted by Adam’s nomination for this most prestigious award given to Britain’s number one bus driver. He is a first-rate ambassador for Coastliner, and clearly gives an amazing welcome to every customer who steps onto his bus.

“As an example, when a social media initiative promoted simple acts of kindness. Adam placed a notice with the campaign’s hashtag “Do Something Nice Day” at the front of his bus, next to a tub of sweets to welcome his customers onto the bus.

“We’re very fortunate to have positive and dedicated people like Adam at the heart of our business. We’ll be rooting for him at the national awards finals next month, at the end of what has been a highly successful year for Coastliner – Britain’s Most Scenic Bus Route.”

Customers on the Coastliner network also have plenty of reasons to celebrate, with the entry into service in September of three brand new high-specification, low emission twin-deck buses, introduced in a £714,000 investment by the service’s parent company Transdev.

The new buses, which follow on from a £2.34 million investment in an initial fleet of 10 new British built vehicles, are packed with features inspired directly by valued customer feedback, including leather trimmed coach seats, fast and free 4G Wi-Fi, unique ‘power zones’ on the top deck featuring wireless connections for mobile phones and tablets, and even a glazed roof to enjoy the wide skies and starry nights above Yorkshire.
