Transdev York wins Green Bus Funding for new electric bus14 June 2013
Transdev York has been successful in its bid for funding towards the purchase of a new fully electric bus, as part of the government’s ‘Green Bus Fund’. The bus will be one of nine electric vehicles to be introduced in York, the main purpose of the fund is to support and hasten the introduction of hundreds of low carbon buses across England.
The 25-seat bus will provide cleaner and greener bus journeys and will be used on the University of York’s ‘Unibus’ service which provides an internal shuttle service, Monday to Friday, between the various campuses.
Nigel Eggleton, Marketing Director for Transdev commented “We’re delighted that our partnership with The University of York will be further enhanced with the arrival of an electric bus. The many students using the internal route within the University will benefit from this investment which brings the highest environmental standards, improved air quality and an excellent carbon footprint.”
The bus will be assembled locally on the outskirts of York near Sherburn by manufacturer Optare, providing a further boost to the local economy.
